Stem cells? Sounds revolutionary!
We all hear in the news how stem cells are causing a revolution in how we treat diseases.
I tried a product called Fixx™ Stem Cell Serum, which claims to “help your skin keep its youthful tone”. They say they use marine-derived Mitostime and Phyko AI-PF to support the stem cells in our skin. What are these ingredients? Coming from brown algae seaweed, a lot of major companies like Clinique are using these in their skin care products.
Phyko is marine-derived sugar that is said to mimic our skin’s epidermal growth factor, which may help produce new skin cells. I was curious about it (as I tend to be), so I bought a bottle and thought I would give it a try.
My first impression was that it was a cute little bottle, with .9 fluid ounces an in chic black color. Then I checked out the ingredients, here they are, listed from the company’s information:
Mitostime is a concentrated extract of the brown algae Laminaria digitata. Research has shown that Mitostime helps support normal, healthy skin collagen and reduces the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. Mitostime also helps protect the skin from photodamage, helping the skin cells retain a more youthful appearance. These benefits of Mitostime can help your skin maintain a smoother, suppler feel and appearance.
Phyko AI-PF is a marine-derived sugar that mimics the skin’s natural Epidermal Growth Factor, the process that supports the production of new skin cells. Studies show that it can promote new skin cell production.
Thiotaine is an amino acid found in mushrooms and wheat germ. It promotes energy (ATP) production and use in skin cells, thereby creating and retaining a softer skin appearance. Thiotaine also supports the structure of the skin to promote a youthful appearance. Thiotaine acts as an antioxidant that protects the cells, especially the mitochondria (energy producing organelles/units in cells) from oxygen radicals. Additionally, Thiotaine has been shown to reduce the appearance of skin discoloration and spots.
Derm SRC is a combination of bamboo silica, pea extract and glucosamine that helps support the production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid for firmer, more toned-looking skin. Derm SRC can help reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The product came with a dropper, and I cleaned my skin well and then used a few drops and massaged into my skin. The fragrance was pleasant, not overwhelming. It did not take too long to dry. Nor was it sticky, which is sometimes a problem with serums. I used it in the morning before work, and applying my makeup, and also I put some on before bedtime. I had no irritation. I used it for about two weeks before I gave it any kind of rating, and I can honestly say, I think it really helped diminish the lines around my eyes! At the very least, it made my skin feel soft and taut. This is a product I think I’m going to keep in my skin care arsenal for a while!
